About St Georges Nursing Home

Purpose-built in 2012 and extensively refurbished by Allegra Care in 2020, St Georges Nursing Home provides state-of-the-art nursing, respite, dementia and palliative care in a bright, modern and welcoming setting.

The home is conveniently located in St Georges, Weston-Super-Mare, close to Worle railway station and the M5. Arranged around a pretty courtyard garden, St Georges Nursing Home is set in manicured grounds, creating a tranquil outlook for residents to enjoy.

The staff team is led by Registered Manager Angela Madden, who started in December 2023. With Allegra Care’s philosophy of person-centred care, all nursing, care and auxiliary staff are selected not only on the basis of their professional qualifications, but also their personal attributes. Patience, empathy and, above all, kindness are key criteria and our team members possess these in abundance.

Our residents’ comfort and quality of life are our top priorities, so Angela and her staff ensure that their dignity, privacy and independence are respected at all times.

The Household Model -  a refreshing, wellbeing-led approach to care

At Allegra, we realise that freedom, choice, and identity are key to residents’ self-worth and overall wellbeing. Adopting a people-centred approach at every stage, we’ve now taken this ethos further at St Georges, creating little neighbourhoods, compact communities, where everybody knows everybody else and smiles.

Fundamentally, it’s about working in partnership with residents and relatives, rather than doing tasks for them/ overstepping boundaries. And whether it’s allowing someone to make their own food at their own pace, in their own way, or creating more homely touches with table decorations and photos, we’ve truly succeeded in using the model and its modern approach to care to  create an authentic 'home' to our residents.

Our residents get what they want for breakfast. They can change their mind: they can get up in the middle of the night and play chess if they want, and we’ll help them do it: that’s the mindset…It makes people feel safe, visible, and – above all – valued.

New developments at St Georges

Within this framework, a new “wandering with purpose” household has been established. Ideally suited to residents who enjoy pottering around and getting involved in everyday activities, the wandering with purpose household underlines Allegra Care’s commitment to innovation and progressive thinking in senior care.

Another recent addition is the residents’ café. Bright, modern and informal, the café is a perfect setting to welcome family or to catch up with fellow residents over a companionable cuppa.

Keeping residents engaged and involved

Residents at St Georges enjoy a rich and varied programme of in-house and external activities, along with regular excursions and trips in the home’s own minibus. Destinations include the seaside, local shops, pubs and eateries, as well as trips to the cinema and entertainments. Within the home, the activities programme ensures that residents remain active, mentally stimulated and involved. Enthusiastically and imaginatively delivered by our endlessly inventive activities team, the programme plays a key role in entertaining and engaging residents throughout the year.

Expansive views and generously proportioned rooms

Few aspects of St Georges Nursing Home benefit more from its purpose-built origins than the bedrooms. With high ceilings, and deep windows offering expansive views, the generously proportioned rooms feel bright and airy. All 66 bedrooms have the convenience of well equipped en-suite wet rooms with a full range of fixtures and fittings to assist those with limited mobility. Neutrally decorated and smartly furnished, including top of the range profiling beds, rooms can also be personalised with residents’ own furniture and personal effects for enhanced familiarity and a more homely feel.

Naturally, safety and security are key priorities at St Georges. Decor colours vary within different areas of households to assist with orientation, rooms feature low touch temperature radiators, and lighting systems have been optimised for resident safety 24 hours a day.

Anticipating needs, optimising care

At Allegra Care, we believe that residents should be as comfortable as possible, and that everything they need is on hand, at all times - without their having to ask first. The ability to anticipate each resident’s individual needs is therefore essential and a key building block of the personalised care plan, which is drawn up in collaboration with the resident and their family upon admission. Basics such as housekeeping and laundry are of course provided on a daily basis, and residents benefit from regular access to visiting services such as chiropody, physiotherapy and hairdressing, as well as dental and optical care.

St Georges Nursing Home is an exemplar of Allegra Care’s 360 degree approach to elderly care, which takes an individual, holistic view of each resident. It’s a cornerstone of our philosophy. We believe that quality of life is a non-negotiable prerequisite for senior living - it’s the founding principle behind everything we do at St Georges Nursing Home.
