About Magdalen House Care Home

Magdalen House Care Home is situated in the heart of the historic Suffolk market town of Hadleigh. With 53 single occupancy rooms including six assisted living suites, the home was designed and built in 2012 and provides specialised 24-hour residential, dementia and respite care in welcoming, modern surroundings. Care is centred around each individual’s specific requirements, established with the resident and their family upon admission and regularly reviewed and modified as required thereafter.

Overseen by the Registered Manager, the team at Magdalen House are committed to supporting each resident with outstanding personal care that respects their dignity, privacy and independence.

The facilities at Magdalen House are homely and comfortable. Each floor has its own lounge where residents can meet, as well as plenty more quiet spaces to sit and relax - indoors and out. Similarly, there are bright, sociable dining rooms on each floor, residents’ rooms are individually decorated and the home also benefits from its own salon (with regular hairdressing and chiropody appointments).

Home comforts

Whether it’s one of the spacious rooms, or an assisted living suite, the emphasis at Magdalen House is on residents’ comfort and individuality. The bright, cheerful bedrooms are neutrally decorated and we encourage residents to bring their own furniture, pictures and personal effects to foster familiarity and help create a true “home-from-home” sense of comfort. As you’d expect, all rooms have a walk-in en-suite shower room, flat screen TV and exceptional levels of comfort. There’s wi-fi throughout the home and the 24-hour call system enables residents to summon help wherever there are – and at any time.

The six assisted living suites are located on the second floor of the building, with marvellous views across the rooftops of Hadleigh. Complete with lounge, kitchenette, bedroom and en-suite shower room, suites are ideal for singles or couples who need some help with day-to-day activities but also wish to maintain a good level of independence.

For all residents, in single occupancy or assisted living, our laundry and housekeeping services ensure excellent standards of resident comfort and support.

Committed care, dedicated staff

24-hour elderly care is overseen by senior carers working on each shift and on each of the three floors. Our dedicated dementia care team bring years of experience to their roles.

Care packages are discussed upon admission and meticulously tailored to each resident’s specific needs and preferences. Should those requirements change, we always consult with residents and their loved ones before recommending any modifications. Above all, we continually seek to preserve our residents’ dignity and privacy, respecting their independence at all times.

A modern home in an historic setting

Purpose-built in 2012, Magdalen House occupies the former site of Hadleigh bowling club, which was established in 1754 and believed to be one of the oldest in UK. Hadleigh itself is a charming historic market town, with almost 250 listed buildings underlining its architectural heritage. With plenty of cafés, shops and restaurants, the town provides many excursion opportunities right on the doorstep, as do the beautiful surrounding countryside and the coast, less than ten miles distant.

Outside, our pretty garden provides a tranquil setting for wandering, enjoying some sunshine or simply resting on a peaceful bench. For green-fingered residents, there’s also the opportunity to assist with gardening and make a much-valued contribution to Magdalen House’s picturesque outside spaces.

Active living

Organised by our experienced events coordinator, activities and excursions at Magdalen House provide plenty of opportunities for residents to socialise and engage in the wider community. From cooking, quizzes and crafts to exercise classes and moving to music, there are in-house activities for everyone. Whilst we believe that a rich and varied programme of activities helps stimulate and inspire, we’re also committed to choice, so residents only participate in the activities they want to do. Regular coffee mornings provide another opportunity to socialise and are a highlight of the weekly calendar. Family and friends are always welcome, with no set visiting hours.

A varied seasonal menu

Professionally prepared by the chef and his team in our state of the art kitchen, we’re justifiably proud of the cuisine at Magdalen House. The menu changes regularly, with seasonal ingredients sourced locally wherever possible. Good nutrition is a key element of our care philosophy and residents have a choice of dining rooms in which to enjoy delicious and nutritious meals. Food hygiene is a top priority, and the kitchen has a five star rating from the local environmental health agency.
