Magdalen House Care Home is situated in the heart of the historic Suffolk market town of Hadleigh. With 53 single occupancy rooms including six assisted living suites, the home was designed and built in 2012 and provides specialised 24-hour residential, dementia and respite care in welcoming, modern surroundings. Care is centred around each individual’s specific requirements, established with the resident and their family upon admission and regularly reviewed and modified as required thereafter.
Overseen by the Registered Manager, the team at Magdalen House are committed to supporting each resident with outstanding personal care that respects their dignity, privacy and independence.
The facilities at Magdalen House are homely and comfortable. Each floor has its own lounge where residents can meet, as well as plenty more quiet spaces to sit and relax - indoors and out. Similarly, there are bright, sociable dining rooms on each floor, residents’ rooms are individually decorated and the home also benefits from its own salon (with regular hairdressing and chiropody appointments).

Day Care
For more than an adjunct to the main building, as it was designed into the original architectural plan, Hadleigh’s Magdalen House day care centre feels reassuringly self-contained and independent – a distinct venue in its own right. The dementia café is also open for longer hours than much of the other day care provision available locally, so it's convenient for family, loved ones and home carers to incorporate journeys to and fro into the schedule of their working days.

Statistics show that the risk of developing dementia rises from one in 14 over the age of 65, to one in six over 80 years old.Most commonly caused by Alzheimer’s disease, dementia damages the brain cells, interfering with their ability to communicate with each other.

Along with the hugely beneficial and effective reminiscence areas at the ends of corridors on each of the three floors, further amenities are on hand to nurture residents’ wellbeing. Three lounges plus an additional quiet lounge on the ground floor provide areas for socialising or peaceful reflection, whilst informal seating zones around the home enable impromptu chats with staff or fellow residents.
Activity areas provide focal points for a varied range of individual and group activities, and the hairdressing, chiropody and beauty salon offers some quality me-time and spot of self-indulgent pampering. Life at Magdalen House Home is further enhanced by regular visiting dental, optical, physiotherapy and library services.

Purpose-built in 2012, Magdalen House occupies the former site of Hadleigh bowling club, which was established in 1754 and believed to be one of the oldest in UK. Hadleigh itself is a charming historic market town, with almost 250 listed buildings underlining its architectural heritage.

Organised by our experienced events coordinator, activities and excursions at Magdalen House provide plenty of opportunities for residents to socialise and engage in the wider community. From cooking, quizzes and crafts to exercise classes and moving to music, there are in-house activities for everyone.
A varied seasonal menu
Professionally prepared by the chef and his team in our state of the art kitchen, we’re justifiably proud of the cuisine at Magdalen House. The menu changes regularly, with seasonal ingredients sourced locally wherever possible. Good nutrition is a key element of our care philosophy and residents have a choice of dining rooms in which to enjoy delicious and nutritious meals.

Every aspect of each resident’s wellbeing is taken into account upon admission before a detailed, personalised care package is drawn up. As time goes by, that care plan is regularly reviewed and any adjustments recommended according to need.
