Burns Night Celebrations
Residents at St Georges Nursing Home in Somerset embraced the spirit of Burns Night with a range of festive activities, including a traditional haggis supper and a special poetry reading. To add to the atmosphere, residents spent the morning crafting tartan gonks, bringing a creative and personal touch to the home’s decorations.
A Traditional Haggis Supper
No Burns Night celebration would be complete without haggis, neeps, and tatties! Residents gathered for a delicious lunch, enjoying this traditional Scottish dish. The meal was met with enthusiasm, with many residents appreciating the chance to try (or revisit) this classic Burns Night favourite.
A Visit from a Poet
After lunch, the home welcomed poetry reader Emma van Woerkom, who shared the works of Robert Burns, offering insight into his famous writings and their significance. The literary theme continued as one of the home’s own residents, Terry, delighted the group by reading his own beautifully crafted poetry. The afternoon was filled with warmth, reflection, and appreciation for the power of words.
