At St. George's Nursing Home in Somerset, we know how to celebrate in style! This Burns Night, we donned our tartans, raised a glass (or two!), and revelled in all things Scottish, creating a day filled with delicious food, heartwarming traditions, and a touch of creative spirit.
Traditional flavours, modern presentation
Our culinary team kicked things off with a delightful twist on the classic haggis. They created a special "haggis pie," a first for our home and a unique way to enjoy this traditional dish. The taste of Scotland filled the air, whetting everyone's appetite for the festivities ahead.
Crafting gonks and sharing stories
The morning buzzed with activity as residents gathered to create tartan gonks – adorable little creatures sporting traditional Scottish plaid. Laughter and conversation flowed freely as residents reminisced about their own Scottish connections or simply enjoyed the opportunity to be creative together.
Local bard ignites creative sparks
The afternoon took a poetic turn with a visit from a local poet. Their recitation of Robert Burns's famous works not only entertained but also sparked a creative fire in our residents. Many residents requested poems close to their hearts, creating a heartwarming exchange of cherished memories and literary appreciation.
A resident's wife takes center stage
Our Burns Night celebration wouldn't have been complete without a touch of spontaneity! The wife of one of our residents, hailing from Glasgow herself, took the floor with infectious enthusiasm. She recited her own poetry with passion and gusto, filling the room with her creative spirit.
Memories made, togetherness shared
At St. George's Nursing Home, we believe in creating a warm and welcoming environment where residents feel valued and connected. Our Burns Night celebration was more than just a tribute to Scottish traditions; it was a day of shared experiences, laughter, and spontaneous moments of joy that will become cherished memories for all involved.
