Dementia Action Week at St Georges

St Georges marked Dementia Action week with a different activity each day, from music to trips to the pub it was an action packed week showing you can live well with dementia.

Creating a Sensory Garden

With the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in full swing St Georges wanted to create their own sensory garden area.  This started with a trip to local Cadbury Garden Centre where residents selected a variety of sensory plants.  There was then a morning planting the sensory area within the home's courtyard. Thank you so much to the family members who came along to support the planting and the garden centre visit.

Benefits of Gardening

Gardening can offer so many benefits for those living with dementia, it is a calming and engaging activity that provides a sense of purpose and achievement. Gardening can also help with memory recall, as familiar plants and scents can evoke memories.

Listening to the sound of the birds chirping and the beautiful sunshine made for a perfect day.  The sensory area is now ready for everyone to enjoy and you can smell the aroma just by walking past.

Dementia Care

St Georges offer both residential and nursing dementia care with a specially trained team, we will adapt to your loved one, to find out more information do visit the website.
