Former Headmaster Heads Back to the Class Room!

Terry Goes Back to the Class Room

Project Sunshine has struck again at our St Georges Nursing Home! We are absolutely delighted to share a truly heart-warming story as our resident, Terry, headed back to school to assist in a Year 1 classroom at St Georges Church School.

A Dedicated Life of Teaching

Terry has had a distinguished career in education, progressing through the ranks to become a Head Teacher and eventually the Head of The Head Teachers Association for Somerset. His room at St Georges is a testament to his passion, filled with pictures and photo books from his many years in the classroom—memories he shares with us on a daily basis.

It was a true honour to help Terry join a class once again and witness how teaching has evolved. During a Year 1 Phonics lesson, Terry wasted no time getting stuck in with the new methods of learning. Watching him study the curriculum, praise the children, and help them with their handwriting was a deeply moving experience for everyone involved.

Laughter and Lessons Learned

Terry also brought along his retirement book, a precious collection of messages and drawings put together by his former students years ago. The book provided plenty of laughs as Terry and the pupils debated whether the childhood drawings actually resembled him! The children warmed to Terry instantly, eagerly showing him their school work and enjoying his expert encouragement.

A Truly Memorable Day

This was a day to remember, bridging generations through a shared love of learning. We would like to extend a huge thank you to St Georges Church School for such a warm welcome and for helping us create this special moment for Terry.
