Glad to Care Week at St Georges nursing home in Somerset really was action packed, following the theme of each day throughout the week.
Glad to Care Week at St Georges
The week started with Motivation Monday, and this was an uplifting day for all the residents who were truly motivated by the idea of making some Bags of Happiness which will be donated to Weston Hospice Care. The residents then took time to write hears of gratitude, writing about the care team and what makes them special.
Tasty Tuesday saw Head Chef Richard demonstrating how to make Sushi which is quite an art. Many of the residents had never tried Sushi before nor eaten with chop sticks but were game to have a go!
Wellbeing Wednesday and Thankful Thursday
For Wellbeing Wednesday, the St George’s activities team making visits all around the home asking residents and staff what makes them happy. The replies were then written down and placed in the happy jar. The day continued with one of the home’s regular visits from Boogie Beats Toddlers which always brings lots of smiles from the residents. Wellbeing is something the St George’s team strive to achieve for their residents every day.
Thursday was all about being thankful for not only the big things in life but also the little things that make such a difference. Thankful Thursday saw the St George’s residents create posies of flowers to give to the care team as a gesture of gratitude for all they do.
Animal Therapy Session Ends the Week
Feel Good Friday was certainly that with animals visiting. The residents and team met guinea pigs, angora rabbits and fat tailed gerbils and everyone loved having a cuddle as well as talking about their own pets over the years. The benefits of animal therapy are both physical and emotional and there is no doubt that having animals around at St Georges brings so much to the home. The week ended with knickerbocker Glories all round!
What is Glad to Care Week?
