St Georges Welcome MP for Care Home Open Week

St Georges Welcome MP for Care Home Open Week

St Georges welcomed the local MP for Weston-Super-Mare for Care Home Open Week.

Care Home Open Week

For Care Home Open Week St Georges invited MP John Penrose to visit the home and meet with the residents, fast forward a few weeks and an election was called and John Penrose is now a candidate campaigning to retain his seat. In many ways the timing was perfect as an election brings to the fore the local and national issues that impact everyone.

Residents Questions on Local & National Issues

St Georges residents were brilliant they had a variety of questions lined up. The topics raised included the energy price cap, cost of living, funding of the NHS, training of more medics, the need for more teachers and retaining them in the profession, encouraging the next generation to embark on a career in care and potholes were discussed a lot.

One resident a former head teacher bought along a photo from 1956 when as a young teacher he took his class to visit the Houses of Parliament. This group of children would have been the equivalent of year 6 today, all 10 and 11 year olds.

Encouraging a Career in Care

John then took time to talk to one of St Georges’ Care Partners Will who has embarked on a career in care and has progressed his career with Allegra Care. Will spoke about the importance of events like Care Home Open Week and keeping the residents a part of the community which many have lived all their lives.
