St Georges Residents Enjoy a Swedish-Themed Cultural Day
At St Georges in North Somerset, residents recently embarked on an armchair adventure to explore the rich culture, natural beauty, and traditions of Sweden. As part of the home’s popular country of the month series, the day was filled with creative activities, delicious food, and plenty of music.
Celebrating Nature with Swedish Midsummer Crowns
The morning began with a traditional craft inspired by Sweden’s Midsummer Festival. Residents and staff worked together to make midsommarkrans—floral crowns using fresh flowers from the St Georges gardens. These beautiful garlands, which symbolise nature and renewal, are a cherished part of Swedish summer celebrations and were a joy to create and wear.
As they made their crowns, residents learned about Sweden’s stunning natural landscapes and deep cultural ties to the outdoors, art, and minimalist design.
Swedish Cuisine and a Soundtrack by ABBA
No Swedish-themed day would be complete without a nod to its world-famous music and food. The hospitality team prepared traditional Swedish meatballs for lunch, bringing a warm and hearty flavour to the dining room.
In the afternoon, the mood shifted to upbeat and joyful as Alexa played a playlist of ABBA’s greatest hits. Residents clapped along and some even took to dancing—ending the day with music, movement, and smiles all around.
