Our Fairmile Grange Care Home was filled with the spirit of the Highlands this Sunday as residents gathered for a lively and creative Burns Night Celebration. It was an afternoon of tradition, laughter, and a fair amount of sporting prowess!
The Fairmile Highland Games
The festivities kicked off with our very own version of the Highland Games. Residents showed off their strength and aim as "cabers" were tossed and beanbags (serving as our honorary stones) were put toward a target featuring a rather cute illustration of a haggis. The competition was fierce but full of good-natured fun, and our residents certainly proved they have the "braveheart" spirit!
Dancing the Day Away
No Scottish celebration is complete without a dance! Relatives Cathy and Jenny took to the floor to perform a delightful Gay Gordon, much to the enjoyment of the crowd. The wonderful Eric also stepped up to join in the dancing, proving that the rhythm of the bagpipes is truly infectious.
Addressing the "Wee Beastie"
The highlight of the event was the traditional entrance of the haggis. Susie did the honours, carrying out the "wee beastie" to the stirring sounds of bagpipes and a recorded "Address to a Haggis" from the British Army.
Once the formalities were over, it was time to tuck in! The haggis was declared a "tasty wee thing," with resident Peggy particularly enjoying the traditional Scottish fare.
